"Savor" means odor or smell. II. Odors are a big part of our lives. There are pleasant odors and foul odors. We associate odors with memories so that many times a certain smell takes us back to a place or a moment in our past. We are told in this Scripture that the knowledge of God is like a very pleasant odor. It also tells us that WE, as his people, are a sweet savor to Him. There was much significance in the anointing of Jesus by Mary with the very precious ointment just before his crucifixion. The odor of that ointment was present all the way through Christ's passion and death. Those who were present forever connected the smell of that ointment with those events. It was another detail in the fulfillment of the sacrificial law. The fragrance of the holy anointing oil used in the Old Testament sacrifices was always present as the sacrifices for sin were made.
