February 28, 2016 Sermon Lesson 6 2 Timothy 2:8-13 Enduring Everything For The Sake of the Elect
Main Idea: We must endure all things for the sake of the elect! (10)
• Basis of endurance: Remembering Jesus Christ (8)  His resurrection (8)  His messiahship (8)  As preached in Paul's Gospel (8)
• Path of endurance: I am suffering for the Gospel (9)  Bound with chains as a criminal (9)  But the Word of God is not bound! (9)
• Purpose of endurance: That the elect might obtain salvation (10)  Salvation in Christ Jesus (10)  With eternal glory (10)
• Consequences of endurance: The Faithful Saying (11-13)  If we have died with him, we will also live with him (11b)  If we endure, we will also reign with him (12a)  If we deny him, he also will deny us (12b)  If we are faithless, he remains faithful— For he cannot deny himself (13)
Applications Am I "cutting corners", denying the Savior I profess to know? Am I "enduring" in suffering today, persisting for the sake of the elect?
