Lynd spelled out the issue in hand, what he wanted to present to the members of his association, and, I am sure, to the wider public: In this annual letter we call your attention to the subject of the new covenant. It is the opinion of many that the covenant made with Abraham was the covenant of grace [that is, the new covenant], and that circumcision was the sign and seal of this covenant, confirming its blessings to Abraham and his posterity, and that baptism now supersedes the rite of circumcision, and is the sign and seal of spiritual blessings. How far this is true or false, will be seen when the Scriptures are allowed to speak for themselves. |
