No, if Jesus had ridden a war horse into Jerusalem, he would have been saying, “I am not the Son of David!â€
Because back in 1 Kings 1, when David wanted to have Solomon crowned king, David had said to Bathsheba and Zadok and Nathan, "Have Solomon my son ride on my own mule..."
Zechariah 9 sees the day coming when the King will again come to Jerusalem riding on a donkey. And notice that the prophet says the war horse will be cut off from Jerusalem.
Zechariah 9 speaks of the coming of the King as the coming of salvation – as the restoration of the glory of Jerusalem.
