Instead of it being a Old Covenant land promise to Israel, it is a New Covenant promise regarding eternal life. Here we see a New Covenant principle that we interpret the Old Testament in light of the New Testament. Honoring father and mother have always been commanded, prior to Moses, after Moses, and even today.
