The apostle Paul would never have 'turned' if he had not been seized and a Hand had not been laid upon him by the Lord Jesus Christ. And, he was converted for a great purpose.
It was Christ who laid a firm hold on Paul so as to possess him completely. and now the apostle is pressing on according to that purpose - in hot pursuit of that for which he was laid hold of by Christ.
After all, what is the sense in turning a man around unless the intention is to have him then travel in the direction purposed by the One who turned him? Hear Paul's summation at the end of his race:
'I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing' (2 Tm. 4:7-8). This is the Christian story.
This is how we are to live our Christian lives: 1) Remember the Purpose; 2) Relinquish the Past; 3) Reach for the Prize.
