No one can escape self-evaluation. In these verses the apostle Paul says how he evaluates himself in contrast to his critics in Corinth, who evaluated themselves consistent with the all-too-natural, but wrong way--by compareing themselves with themselves and with others. The important thing is to win God's approval, and the method of self-evaluation which leads to his commendation is 1) to have a heart and conscience directed wholly toward God and his Word, and 2) to keep within the "rule" or life's pathway of his choosing, which is unique for each individual person.
