This incident of Jesus calming the storm on the Sea of Galilee is really a lesson in Christology - who was the man in the boat with the disciples? First, he was the exhausted Man - revealing his full humanity with its limitations. Secondly, he was Lord over nature as we see him calm the storm - exactly what Yahweh does as in Psalm 107. Then Jesus is the Teacher of his disciples - exhorting them to have faith, and not be terrified of the storm. Finally, we learn about the fears of the disciples - fear of the fierce storm, but great fear of Christ himself, as they realized his divine power over nature.
