This sermon focuses on the statement of Jesus that he "must go to Jerusalem" where he would be persecuted, die, and rise. There are reasons in the OT for the necessity of Jesus dying in Jerusalem. One of the most significant is that the Temple was in Jerusalem, where the multitude of animal sacrifices were offered for the sins of the people and their leaders. But Jesus' death in Jerusalem, as the true Lamb of God, was the only death that truly and completely removed sins. His destiny of death and resurrection in Jerusalem is tied to our destiny as the people of God. In the New Jerusalem to come we will dwell with Christ - he will be our God and we will be his people.
