Although the crowds of young and old rightly praised and worshipped the Lord as the Messiah, He Himself may well have had a heavy heart knowing that He was going to the cross to conquer Death. It is only recorded twice in the Scriptures that Jesus wept. Once was just before the triumphal entry into Jerusalem and the other was the same day as the triumphal entry. The first was an angry but silent weeping at the "violent tyranny" of death as he "contemplated the generaly misery of the whole humna race" (Calvin). The other was an outburst at tears when he looked upon rebellious Jerusalem. "The sight of suffering drew tears from his eyes; obstinate unbelief convulsed him with uncontrollable grief" (BB Warfield). In a few days the mob will cry out "crucify him!" And yet Christ will go on by himself to conquer Death for us. As a result of his conquest, believers are filled with glad rejoicing at His wonderful victory!
