The Psalmists express a longing and desire for God. This spiritual desire is absent or greatly diminished in our day.
1. The author of Spiritual Desire is God a. Natural man in his spiritual deadness does not thirst for God b. God supplies both the spiritual thirst and the satisfaction
2. The object of Spiritual Desire is God a. God alone is our highest good and greatest happiness b. Only God can satisfy
3. The arena of Spiritual Desire is the soul a. The soul is the center of all thought, feeling, action and will b. The soul is deep within; it's the center the core of our being
4. The intensity of the Spiritual Desire is thirst a. Thirst is pictured as a deer panting for water b. Thirst is a longing that won't go away
5. The friend of Spiritual Desire is poverty of Spirit a. You will long for God if you have no sense of need. b. Self-satisfaction blinds us to our need for God.
6. The expression of Spiritual Desire is prayer a. It is NOT possible to truly desire God and not pray b. Spiritual desire causes Christians to pray
7. The outcome of Spiritual Desire is that God responds to His people a. Isaiah 41: 17 - “I, the LORD will answer them†b. God responds to His people that long for Him
God wants to be wanted. God longs to be longed after. God loves to be loved! God is waiting for a person who will say, “I am tired of the emptiness and waste. I must have You, LORD!â€
May God reveal to us where we are and make us thirsty so that He may satisfy that thirst!
