To the children he says "your sins are forgiven for his name's sake," to the young men that they "have overcome the wicked one," and to the fathers, "ye have known him that is from the beginning." There should be a progression in the knowledge and understanding of the Lord as we age. These three generations need one another and are much better off when they stay close to one another through life.
