We do not know what Ruth witnessed about the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob before she ended up following Him. In chapter 1, Naomi explicitly refers to Israel's God by using His name YHWH in vv. 8, 9, & 13. No doubt she would have heard about the God of Israel from Naomi's sons and from Naomi herself. Ruth chose to make Naomi's God her God and Naomi's people her people. Something must have become evident to the people that Ruth had devoted herself to God. Boaz declares that Ruth had taken refuge under God's wings (v. 12). Ruth would learn much about Israel's God. Her very life will be a testimony of God's goodness and grace and that she had taken refuge under his wings.
I. God can reverse our entire predicament unexpectedly (chs. 1-2). Her life will begin to change within days and within a season her entire predicament will be reversed. She shall once again have a son to replace her two sons to carry on the name. All this will be in accordance with God's expressed provision in Israel. Her murmuring and complaining will turn to joy and her own daughter-in-law will be one of the mothers of our Lord Jesus Christ. God can reverse our entire predicament unexpectedly.
II. God makes one man to differ from another (2:1). God alone can make one man to differ from another. He gives gifts and abilities to one and not another, authority to one and a servants role to the rest, riches and wealth to some and financial struggles for others. We are not born with equal gifts and circumstances. Some are born with a silver spoon in their mouths and some with a plastic spoon.
III. God can take one day's events to change your life. What a difference a day makes!
