The burnt offering represents our denial of self and is the first step toward reconciliation to God. Jesus said if any man would come after Him he must first deny himself. Not all the sacrifices were primarily about a savior, but they also showed what happened in the heart of the sinner who came to the altar. It was hypocrisy to try to offer a sin offering, or a trespass offering, or a wave offering, or a peace offering if that person had not first made a burnt offering.
