For thousands of years, the Jews experienced "most-favored-nation- status." It is hard for us to imagine how difficult it would be for them to see the idolatrous Gentiles, the wild olive tree, come and be grafted in among them. So before the Gentiles began to repent and believe in great numbers, Jesus began to prepare his disciples for the influx. This parable of the workers in the vineyard---some of whom only worked an hour,but received a full day's wage, is one of the ways He did so. It is a reminder to us of God's rich, free, unmerited grace. This message was well-received at Liberty.
