Zephaniah prophecies judgements upon the church of God and the nation of Israel because they were following the ungodly practices of the heathen nations around them. One of these was 'strange apparel', clothing which did not become those professing to serve the holy Lord God. We need to have Biblical rules to guide us in what clothing is suitable for us to wear as Christians. 1. It is to be sufficient: it must cover nakedness. 2. It is to be appropriate: it should reflect our gender. 3. Moderation must be used in relation to clothing. 4. Necessity must govern our attitude to clothing. 5. Modesty must be exemplified in our clothing. 6. Contentment must characterize our thoughts about our clothes. 7. We must be spiritual in our use of clothing. Application 1. We must avoid extremes. 2. Beware of vested interests when shopping for clothes. 3. Remember the origin of clothing - to cover our shame, because of sin. 4. Consider, no matter how gorgeous you are, you will always be surpassed by something more beautiful: 'Remember the lilies...Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these'!
