The Gospels describe Christ's triumphant entry into Jerusalem in varying detail. Rather than the earthly messiah the Jews anticipated, Christ enters on the back of a lowly donkey - not a prancing war horse, fulfilling the O.T. prophets Zechariah (9:9) and others. The reaction of the people is mixed. Some cry out Hosanna in joy. The Greek word Hosannah has its origins in the Hebrew word transliterated "yasha` anna" meaning "save I beseech thee". Others respond in disgust, as we read in in Luke 19, where Jesus is asked to rebuke his disciples for their joyful Hosannas. Jesus responds by making it clear that his people cannot remain silent. Still others reacted with anxiety, as we read in Matthew 21:10 - "Who is this?". Christ still enters and visits his Church today. How do you react to this meek and loving Savior, who is also the triumphant conquerer of sin, and King of kings?
