Lydia of whom we have just read has the high distinction of being the first named European convert, as recorded in the Word of God. There were most likely other converts to Jesus Christ on that memorable day of Pentecost who had travelled from southern Europe to Jerusalem but their names are not recorded in the Word of God.
The blessing and favour of God is something of value and something well worth seeking. It brings untold blessings and benefits to an individual, to a family, to society and to a nation.
It is the desire for God's blessing and favour upon their little Lydia that explains why her parents have brought her to the house of God tonight for this Dedication Service. They want her to know the blessing of God upon her life from her earliest days, all the way through, until her days are done in this world.
In light of this fact I want us this evening to consider the Lydia that is mentioned in the Word of God. As we do so I want us to consider the blessing of God upon this woman named Lydia's life in a number of ways. As we do so I trust we will see a pattern for the little Lydia that is among us tonight and even a pattern for all our lives.
Consider: God's blessing upon Lydia - I. In the providential circumstances that brought her to Philippi II. In the opening of her heart III. In her reception of the Word of God.
