As we continue our series through Philippians, this week we are reminded that Paul is not alone in his imprisonment. He has with him his fellow servant in the gospel and "true child in the faith," Timothy. "I have no one like him," says Paul. What a wonderful commendation! And yet, what a sad and sorry state of affairs that there is only one man Paul knows who seeks not his own interests but those of Jesus Christ, only one who is genuinely concerned for the welfare of others. Isn't this the very heart and mind Paul exhorts the whole church towards earlier in Philippians 2 – the mind "which is yours in Christ Jesus"? How we must pray that the Lord might raise up more men and women in the body of Christ who are like Timothy, who reflect the very character of Christ who abides in us. Pray that he might "work in us all, both to will and to work for his good pleasure."
