The minor prophet Haggai gives us the "big" picture of the remaking of the kingdom of God. Here in Haggai, through His prophet, Jehovah continues the process of re-claiming the hearts of these who have gone astray. The Lord is re-ordering the hearts of the people such that they may be reclaimed as His children. And as He does so, God is in effect, establishing His kingdom which is within the hearts of the people. Then He is seating His king upon the throne over their hearts. It is that great reversal of creation, and then the fall of mankind. Creation made perfect by God; man corrupted, and creation cursed, by man’s sin; and man removed from the presence of God. So here we see in Haggai, the great reversal: the purification of man by God (the remaking of man - the cleansing of his heart through redemption); the re-creation of the kingdom, the setting of man back within the new kingdom, and the placement of His chosen king upon the throne. In short, the Lord of hosts re-orders the hearts of His people (cleansing them from their defilement), so that they may be ruled by the true King, and enter into His "remade" kingdom. |
