Israel often forgot the direction God's special choosing of them from out all the peoples of the earth was to take. In Genesis 12:2 God told Abraham, I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. and God adds to Abraham in verse 3 "...In you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." God had a missionary purpose for the people of Israel. They had been blessed in order to be a blessing to all the nations on the earth. This song is one of those rare moments when God blessing of the nation Israel awakens within them this desire not only for themselves to be blessed but for all nations to come under that blessing as well. The song is a cry to God for blessing but a cry with a clear purpose in mind. It is likely a song that was sung to celebrate the harvest and as that rich harvest was celebrated a hope for a harvest of praise to be gained for the God of Israel from all the peoples of the earth found expression in the people's hearts.
