Patrick Hamilton was born in 1504 into a royal family. As a young man, Hamilton was ambitious to do all things to the best of his ability. He was considered an intellect among intellects by his peers. Hamilton was a devoute catholic until he read the writings of Martin Luther and the New Testament translation of Tyndell. As a result of these writings, Hamilton began to understand the truths of God's Word. At the age of twenty four, Hamilton began preaching justification by faith alone. This angered the catholic church of Scotland. Hamilton was burned at the stake for his preaching against the catholic church. The Lord used his preaching and death to plant the seeds for the Scotish Reformation.
