H.C. Lord's Day 14 – The Holy Conception and Virgin Birth of Christ – Sermon Outline Intro: How could God become man, in the likeness of sinful flesh, yet without sin, to atone for our sin? Need: The conception of Mary through the Holy Spirit miraculously ensured that Jesus Christ was truly human, yet not of the seed of Adam, and therefore not born fallen and sinful. Christ was truly of the line of King David, as prophesied, and yet was so without being sinful, and therefore is able to save us from sin. Theme: Christ was born from woman, yet conceived by the Holy Spirit, to become a new yet sinless Adam that fulfilled all righteousness, paid for sin, & became our Mediator, so we would serve Him.
1. Christ is conceived by the Holy Spirit in the virgin Mary to unite His divine nature to a human nature uncorrupted by sin. 2. Christ as the God-Man is therefore able to be our Mediator and Redeemer so that we serve Him.
