Luke's narration moves from Peter to what is happening at the same time. The gospel is being received in Antioch. The church is becoming more than just a sect of Judaism as Gentiles are brought in. With the people being saved, Jerusalem sends Barnabas to help. But that is not enough, so Barnabas gets Paul to join in the labor. Other prophets came from Jerusalem to be a blessing to those in Antioch. The church is acting as a body even though it is spread across countries, even as the church in Antioch sends relief to their brethren in Jerusalem. A new body is testified to as they are first called Christians in Antioch. Its a wonderful demonstration of their love and care for one another. Even as we have a chance to work with the Grace Baptist in Durham and as we reach out to that community, may it also be a testimony of our love and care for the whole church and not just our little corner of it.
