This past week, I talked with someone from S. Africa. We talked about all the corruption in that country, the high unemployment, the violence, etc. The country is barely hanging on and the infrastructure is falling apart. The man said that he believed S. Africa was under God's judgment! Can he unequivocally say something like that? Can he be so certain? Someone else I talked to suggested that the locusts in Africa and this pandemic clearly looks like God's biblical judgments. How are we supposed to respond to this?
ERGO I. All pandemics, plagues, catastrophes, major cataclysmic events, etc. should compel us to reckon with God. II. God uses plagues and pandemics to judge the earth. III. It is good to be reminded of our mortality, frailty, and insecurity from these events. IV. Lastly, there is refuge in Jesus Christ for all of us.
