The Wisdom of a Wife / What, Me Submit?~ I Peter 3:1-6
The foundation of submission is the order of creation, “For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve.” (I Timothy 2:13) “For man does not originate from woman, but woman from man.” (I Corinthians 11:8) Four things about submission — “She does him good all the days of his life and not evil.” Submission is difficult Submission is a learned skill Submission is scary Lack of submission brings dysfunction The scripture speaks (I Peter 3) Her character (vs. 1-2) Her beauty (vs. 3-4) Her hope (vs. 5-6) Observations: There is nothing lovelier than a respectful wife. There is nothing uglier than a rude woman. Husbands are to be honored because they are husbands. Husbands should be good and kind to their wives. Your experience with men can affect how you feel about submission. Submission is not silence. Christian wives can run ahead of their husbands. There are extenuating circumstances in submission (i.e., adultery, abuse). Application: Discuss the roles/function of husbands and wives. What does it mean for men to lead and women to submit? (It may be fun here to let the ladies talk about leadership and men about submission). In your own words describe what Peter means in vs. 1-6. Pastor shared observations concerning submission—talk about those observations.
