Verses 1-5 can be rightly applied to Christ as the only 'perfect' man after Adam fell. Verses 6-8 must be uniquely applied to Christ alone.
A. Christ is our Priest and his sacrifice is the only effective atonement (Hebrews 10.11-14)(1 John 1.1-3).
B. Christ is 'the' Servant of the Lord. (verses 7-8).(1) "he freely offered himself to this service" (2) "he firmly obliged himself to it" (3) "he frankly owned himself engaged"
C. Christ's prophetic office (verses 9-10)(Romans 10.9-11).
III. Beseeching: beseeching God for succour
A. Prayer for preservation. (verse 12) B. Prayer for victory (verses 14-15). C. Prayer for gladness (verse 16a). D. Prayer for praise (verse 16b)
Conclusion
Thus in need, the godly man can always have hope (verse 17) (Hebrews 5.7).
