We have a tendency to assume God wants to accomplish certain things for him • We assume that it’s about our activity o It’s not about our activity, but our identity o We spend so much energy trying to find out what we should be doing that we fail to consider who we are while we are doing it—whatever the “it” is.  Sometimes we forget to think of who we are becoming while we sit around waiting for God to tell us what we should be doing • Obedience has more to do with your heart than your actions • Obedience has more to do with your attitude than your aptitude o God doesn’t expect you to become something you aren’t in order to serve him  Our culture teaches us that we need to become something else before we are worthwhile—before we can be of use • Paul: “By the grace of God, I am what I am.” o God doesn’t expect you to become something you aren’t in order to serve him o Rather, He expects you to serve him with what you have and with who you are – with those particular set of talents and abilities you possess. • You focus on the Lord, and He will make you what he needs you to be o Your own particular set of strengths and weaknesses together comprise who you are. And brothers and sisters, the way you serve Jesus is to lay all of this down at his feet! o “Lord, you know me better than I know myself. You know what distracts me; you know what hinders me; you know my needs; you know my abilities. Lord, help me lay down my life so that I might KNOW you”  THAT is obedience
