Paul has talked a lot about unity so far in Philippians. The Body of Christ partners together to advance the Gospel, unifies to help stand against enemies of the Gospel, and the blessings that come from our community together motivate us to keep our bond together. However, this bond only holds together through humility. Paul uses the ultimate example of humility to help the Philippians see that this attitude comes from the head of our body. Christ, having full deity before time and creation, limited Himself by taking a human body. He became human, in addition to His deity, to save humans through His death on the cross. If Christ did this for us, how can we still think our own agendas are more important than others?
