Though he had been brought up in a minister's home and had always been under the sound of the Gospel, Jonathan Edwards was not converted to Christ until he was a 17 year old graduate student at Yale College. The work of God's Spirit in his heart through his reading of the Scriptures taught him many lessons about the true nature of regeneration, and the sovereign intervention of God that was necessary to the conversion of a soul. Such a message needs to be reemphasized in today's society when the Biblical doctrine of the new birth has been so consistently diluted.
