Romans 8:12-17 1. It is incorrect to view your salvation as a "get out of jail free" card. (The Correction) So then, brothers, we are debtors not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.
2. If you are saved, you will seek to remove yourself from sin. a. Living by the Spirit means actively fighting against your own flesh. • For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. b. This is because your patrimony has changed. • For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. c. You are now an adopted child of God. • For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, "Abba! Father!" d. If this is true of you, then the work of the Spirit stands as the evidence. • The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, e. What we gain is co-inheritor with Christ. • And if children, then heirs-heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ.
3. Your salvation puts you at odds with this world both internally and externally. (The Follow Through)
