In today’s lesson, the unfaithfulness continues. The LORD exposes the nation’s wallets and pocketbooks. He addresses the neglect and greed of their hearts. We must realize that Israel was a theocracy under the Headship of God. As such, the LORD had provided laws which would sustain the most important aspect of the nation—The Worship of Holy God. The King desired pure worship in Israel and planned for them to be a light to the nations. The King has always had an international desire to make His glory known. However, the LORD knows that in order to maintain pure worship, it requires the giving of financial means to the house of the LORD in order to carry on the work of the LORD. Today, the title will be Opening the Windows of Heaven. Growing up at home, the spring months would come around, and I remember them vividly as mom and dad would open up the windows and let the breeze air out the house. It was a time of newness as the cold winter months had past and a time of refreshing as the fresh air got rid of the stuffiness. Today, we need the fresh air of heaven to blow through Bethlehem church. We need the spiritual rain of the Holy Spirit to water this holy garden of the LORD Jesus Christ. We, as sheep of the Great Shepherd, need to be led by the gentle streams to be refreshed by the blessings of God which money can’t buy. As we discuss this topic of money, let’s consider the 1) Generosity of God, 2) the Greed of the People, and 3) the Goodness of God’s blessings.
