The sin of turning back (v.20).God hardened Pharaoh's heart; that is, God let his heart run the course of human nature. God let the law of human nature, the law of conditioning, take its effect. God allowed Pharaoh's rejection to harden his own heart more and more. The result: his heart became hardened, more rock-hard than ever, and he would not repent of his idolatry and oppression of people. He would not obey God and free God's people.
