Paul says that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, which is why our Lord Jesus will change our vile bodies like unto His glorious body at the resurrection.
Meanwhile, the saints who are dead in Christ are present before His Glory faultless, while their bodies have been shorn from them and lie waiting for the resurrection.
After He was made sin for His people, the Lord Jesus was buried and rose again the third day. He appeared in His glorified body, and He is the first fruit of the resurrection. All His people will one day be raised and glorified like the Savior.
Christ's glorified body, as well as ours one day, are freed from the way the world works. They are real, tangible, and physical, yet they are spiritual bodies. They aren't subject to the laws of this old world, and they are immortal, incorruptible, perfect, honorable, and strong.
But our Lord Jesus' body is unique in that, though it is glorified, it still bears the wounds of the cross, visible to His loved ones.
The gospels record how the Lord Jesus proved Himself to His startled disciples by displaying the wounds of Calvary, and yet, His body was not bound down by the petty limitations that the natural world places upon us.
The wounds in Christ's body do not provoke sorrow in the saints. They are not repellent or causing of fear.
Christ's wounds are the cause of joy and gladness to His people!
How can Jesus be glorified, and still carry the wounds of the cross?
The reason is simple: because Christ's death is His greatest glory! Dying to save His people from their sin is the pinnacle of Christ's glory, and He wears the wounds as trophies of His glorious death for sinners! |
