Today I will continue our expository study of the prophecy of Isaiah. In the last two sermons we looked at chapter one. In the first one we saw that the Holy One brought His three accusations against Judah. In the second one we dealt with the underlying problem in Judah, which was their spiritual deception. The word of the Lord through Isaiah to the nation is precisely the word of the Lord needed for this same condition in the modern church. But in the sermon today we will see that Isaiah becomes much more optimistic about the future of the people of God. For the Lord reveals to him what His purposes are for “the latter days,” which we commonly refer to as “the last days.” I will take some time to explain the proper meaning of this phrase, because most Christians wrongly assume that it refers to a relatively short period of time just before the return of Jesus. From there I will develop what Isaiah says about the Lord's activity in those days, and it is nothing less than something astounding. The words of this text should enlighten our minds and thoroughly warm our hearts as Christians. May God be pleased to bless His word today!
