A healthy Christian will long for fellowship with Christ. But we do not often think about Christ's longing for fellowship with his people. Yet that is evident in creation, in the covenants, and in his incarnation. At the last Passover Jesus expressed his longing to share it with the apostles. He had shared with them in the things of God and in promoting God's kingdom. They were his in the sense of being his Father's gifts. But so are all his people. And his longing is for fellowship with every believer. That Passover was the end of the old dispensation and the precursor to what would make all fellowship possible - 'before I suffer'. Now he longs for it 'anew in the kingdom of God'. And believers experience that by God drawing them to Christ, by his Word and Spirit, and his response to their prayers. It will multiply in glory. How we ought to respond to our heavenly Bridegroom's desire, seeking his face and telling of his glory.
