Some people have bad rulers imposed upon them by force, but in America, we pick bad leaders ourselves.
Particularly ironic is the case when poor leaders provoke us to choose bad leaders to replace them with.
This problem was illustrated by Israel's demand for a king, because Samuel's sons were corrupt and dishonest, and they craved better leadership. Samuel warned them against desiring a king, but they would not listen to his warnings because of their frustration with the bad rulers they already had.
So too, we have chosen very poor leaders in our country. Most Republicans are dissatisfied with their own party leaders, and seem driven therefore to choose a bully and profane man, a rank demagogue, an amoral man who is directed by no principles other than evil pragmatism.
So much for democracy's ensuring the selection of good leaders!
Praise God, He didn't leave the choosing of our Prince and Savior up to any of us, for we would have chosen poorly. Indeed, Isaiah lamented that when the Lord Jesus would come, nobody would desire Him or select Him.
But no matter what we did, God appointed the Lord Jesus anyway!
Psalm 2 predicted that God would set Jesus on the throne regardless of the rebellion of the world. Psalm 110 exhibits God's promise to Christ that He will subjugate all opposition to Him.
The Father instructed Christ's people that He was to be listened to and obeyed, for He is God's well-pleasing, only begotten Son.
Even though wicked men sought to destroy Christ at the Cross, God exalted Him to be our Prince and our Savior! Peter warned all Israel that no matter their wickedness, the same Jesus they crucified is raised both Lord and Christ!
