It seems clear to me that God has abandoned America because we have abandoned God. We left Him first and that can be clearly seen by just how bad society has become. This is so much like what we read throughout the book of Deuteronomy, when Moses recounted Israeli's history and prophesied about how Israel would in the future turn from God to idols. Even though America is not Israel, there are parallels highlighted showing what happens when a nation or a person deliberately turns from God (Romans 1).
