Peter's confession eight days earlier that Jesus was the Son of God is confirmed for him and the other two disciples as they ascended the mountain with Jesus. There they beheld him in his glorified state as his deity shown through his humanity. And the Father's voice from heaven confirmed Jesus' true identity and the purpose of his mission - to die for the sins of his people so they would be forgiven and be God's own people. Moses and Elijah added their witness to the Father's witness that Jesus was the Beloved Son who was the great prophet to come whom Moses predicted in Deut. 18. So we, too, are called to "listen to" the Son - a call to discipleship, obedience, and worship.
