The seventh and final church that John is instructed to send a special letter to is the one in Laodicea. Christ pictures Himself as the Amen, the faithful and true witness and the Beginning of the creation of God. He did not praise them at all - the only church not commended by Christ. Their problems were twofold: they had deeds that were neither hot or cold - they made a lukewarm attempt at Christianity; and they claimed to be spiritually rich, in need of nothing - but they were actually completely destitute. The prescription for this church involved four things: buy (redeem w/o money) refined gold (tested faith), white garments (divine righteousness) and eye salve (spiritual illumination); be zealous (fervently follow Jesus); repent (change your mind); and respond (listen and obey). He promises that those who open the door to Christ will enjoy an intimate relationship, and those who overcome will reign with Christ (throne).
