Four times in three verses Paul exhorts believers to stand, and standing has to do with actively resisting all that opposes Christ. To do this we need to have the full armor of God, however, we also need to understand that having on the armor doesn't enable us to bypass the battle. God has given us the armor so that we can be effective in battle. Thus, having thoroughly prepared, we need to stand and do battle and deal with the temptation to take offense and despair because of the difficulties that we endure in this life.
