Being saved in the Old Testament In the part where you used the clever credit/debit analogy, in the Old Testament to be cleansed of their sins, they had to sacrifice a lamb. It couldn't be just any animal or any lamb, it had to be a perfect lamb to God’s specifications. The lamb had to live with the family for I believe about 14 days sort of as a pet or part of the family. The reason for that is so the family would grow feelings toward the lamb so when they sacrificed it, it would sadden them, making the sacrifice a true sacrifice. Since this was before Christ's time, this was the direct representation of what Jesus Christ would be, that perfect sacrifice for OUR sins. That's where being "washed in the blood of the lamb" comes from. Jesus was that perfect lamb, perfect sacrifice for our sins.
