In this magnificent prayer of our Lord, we see that He prayed for Himself as He had finished the work our Father had Him to do. He sought now to be glorified and to glorify His Father as He was ready to pay the ultimate price for our redemption. He prayed with eternity in view. Eternal life with all its benefits is given to all who know Him (vs. 1-5). Now He turns His attention to His disciples. He was leaving them on earth as He went to His Father. They were saved through His ministry (17: 6-13). He prays for their sanctification for their own ministry (17: 14-17) and He prays for them as they will be sent into a hostile world (17: 18-19)
