How is it that the sons of this world (worldly wise men) are more shrewd in their generation than the sons of light (those who know the Lord)? (verse 8)
Answer: They pay closer attention to those things which will make for their personal earthly benefit than the Christian person, the son of light does, in relation to doing all things for the glory of God in the name of Christ. The Christian person ought to be more wise and diligent than a worldly wise man to invest His Master's resources wisely. He should do this so that others might be won to Christ, and blessed and benefitted by his labors so much, that they will give glory to God for his generosity, his love, his kindness, and his faithfulness in doing the will of God.
