Cain feared death and feared estrangement from God. But He never repented. Today the unbelieving world still fears death. (Hebrews 2) calls this fear a life-long bondage. But Jesus took on flesh and blood in order to destroy the work of the Devil and set believers free from the fear of death. This he did by becoming a curse for us (Galatians 3) as set foreshadowed in the scapegoat of the Day of Atonement.
