Although David's life was special in many ways it also shared the ordinary things that happen inn any human life. One of those things is having to deal with impossible people. Folly and sin can be be very provoking. The danger is that we respond in kind - David did that when he decided to kill Nabal. But Abigail showed what it means to be a peacemaker, something Jesus described as being called 'children of God'. God has dealt patiently with our sin and folly and he calls us to deal patiently with others as his children. David learned that he could afford to wait patiently - God's time would come for him to be king. Likewise the child of God can wait patiently until Jesus returns and judges the world in righteousness. Until then we are called to love God and one another.
