We have expounded through the catalog of virtues listed in verses five through seven. The crowning virtue, and that which comprehends all of the others, is love (“agape”). Peter closes this passage by giving both positively and negatively the importance, necessity, and benefits of cultivating all seven virtues. Where there is no growth, there is no saving faith. These blessed results of cultivating Christ-like virtue are not optional. They are not luxuries. They are necessities. We can't afford to stall spiritually. Have you had your spiritual “vital signs” taken lately?
