Our Lord Jesus knows that we are tempted to worry about what we will eat, what we will drink, and what we will wear tomorrow. He knows we are tempted to be anxious about how to get what we and our loved ones need in the future.
So he, caring about us, tells us not to worry or be anxious about what we will need in the future.
But that is easier said than done! It is easier for me to read those words of the Lord than actually to obey them and live by them. It is easier for me to know I shouldn't worry, than for me actually not to worry.
And our Lord Jesus knows that about us, too. So he said more than just the bare command not to worry. He also said things that we can use to fortify or reinforce or strengthen our conscience right where we need it, in order actually to trust and obey him, and not worry about the future.
