KEYS OF HELL AND OF DEATH: There are many descriptions of Hell, including the fact that it seems to have bars (Jonah 2:6); gates (Matthew 16:18); and prisoners (Isaiah 42:6,7). Death holds the bodies awaiting the "second death," and Hell contains lost souls pending their final judgment.
Revelation 20:13-14
Man consists of three parts: a living soul housed in a body of flesh with a living spirit by which we are animated.
1 Thessalonians 5:23
Christ's soul visited Hell only momentarily before entering Paradise—both located in the heart of the earth. Acts 2:24-31
The Lord's Supper reminds us that forgiveness comes from the shedding of His blood and the breaking of His body. Christ going to Hell had nothing to do with paying for sin. Christ once suffered for sins by being put to death in the flesh. This death was fully accomplished on the cross. 1 Peter 3:18-19 The Bible says that Christ, while in Hell, preached to the spirits but not to everyone. It also does not offer clues about what He preached to those spirits. Christ died and traveled to Hell—not to suffer—but to get the Keys of Hell and Death. Christ's death (not His suffering) removed Satan's power over death. Hebrews 2:14-15
Christ used His death to defeat the Devil. By destroying the power of Satan, He released believers from the bondage that comes from fear of death. First Corinthians tells us that Christ gives victory through His victorious death suffered on our behalf. 1 Corinthians 15:55 -57 Luke 23:42-43 Ephesians 4:8 John 20:17 Matthew 28:9 -10
