Christians wrestle with weird things. The message of the Christian gospel is that we, as imperfect people, have been reconciled to our perfect Creator through Christ being our substitute on the cross. This means we can now come to God anytime, for anything, through Christ!
Many Christians wrestle, though, with the question, "Why pray?" Since God is all-powerful and all-knowing, why pray? The answer could simply be given, "Because God says to," but more motivation is given us in the Bible. We are to pray, among other things, because that is the means, the instrument that God uses to bring us his blessings! Jesus tells us, "Ask and you will receive" and James states the converse principle that "You do not have because you do not ask."
In Ephesians 3:14-21, Paul in effect says, "If prayer is the conduit by which God blesses us, not only am I going to pray without ceasing, but this is what I’m going to pray for: the very best that God has to offer! More of Jesus Christ."
It is for this reason I bow my knees, Paul tells us: in order that Christ’s Spirit give you strength, as Christ lives in you by faith, giving you an ever-deepening, familiar knowledge of Christ-love, that you may enjoy the very fullness of what God has to offer. Jesus! |
